Lakota West vs. Regina: West’s
opening game shocked everyone from Cincinnati when Regina jumped out to a 19/12 first qtr lead. West
powered back the second quarter 19/6 looking like their power house billing and
went in at the half leading 31/25. What ever Andy Fishman's half time
message was, it need to be destroyed because LW looked atypical the second
half. In this game Amber Gray (17 pts) played like the
champion she is and absolutely dominated the boards. Alexis Rogers
(16 pts) is one of the most athletic players in the 2009 class and she
dominated; she and Amber accounted for 59% of LW rebounds in this losing
effort. In the 2nd half Lakota West's perimeter play on both ends of the
court was horrific; giving up easy shots and their shooting uncharacteristically
scanty. Regina had 4 girls in double figures, Shay Selby (14 pts), Tay'ler
Mingo (13 pts), Emily Hoscilowicz (13 pts) and Mercedes Mitchell
(14 pts). Shay Selby and Tay'ler Mingo are outstanding
guards that bring about the players around them to play better. Selby
and Mingo seemed to score at will beating LW guards off the dribble and
driving the lanes; they were also 10/12 from the charity strips. Lakota West is a fundamentally sound, disciplined and well
coached team; but they were totally clueless for an answer in this loss.
Lakota West vs. Toledo Central
Catholic: I knew the fighting Irish was doomed during the warm
ups; Lakota had a serious glow about them that said we are here to
play. The Irish are the all-time Winningest girls basketball program
in Ohio, but they were playing an infuriated Lakota West. This
turned out to be a very good game in which Amber Gray (29 pts) and Alexis
Rogers (20 pts) lived up to their luminary billing. Toledo
Central Catholic top rated players Sharise Calhoun (15 pts), Katelyn
Nowacki (20 pts) and Brianna Jones (11 pts) were effective, but no
match for the Lakota West's dynamic duo of Gray and Rogers.
Lakota west' victory set a CITC team record; Most points in a game 82.
Lakota West was in control of this game from the beginning and won 82/68.
